![]() ![]() ![]() In the context of the character "1" coming from the keyboard is stored as that character (byte 00110001) whereas any other number format evaluates the same input to number 1 (byte 00000001). Unfortunately, the special number format code ("Text") serves a different prupose: It turns off evaluation of newly entered characters. In particular, none of your formula results will ever be affected by any formatting attribute. Number format shows any number in the default decimal format without converting anything into some other value of a different type. Number format attributes have no visual effect on text values. The number format controls in which fashion a number gets displayed if it is a number at all. Formatting attributes must not change your data. Number formats belong to the realm of colors, fonts, borders and such. It should do the change much simpler and more intuitively. It seems that you should be able to select a cell and use the "Cell Reformat" menu item. Although I understand Regular Expressions, I'm not sure why it works.
